How to Learn English with TV Shows You Love

Turn your TV watching into an English learning tool!

Vickie here to share a simple way to learn English while watching something you already enjoy. In this episode of Language Learning Report Card, I show how to pick up new words and phrases from your favorite TV shows – and actually use them in conversation.

Highlights from the episode:

📺 Pick a show you love:

It can be in English or your target language. The more you enjoy it, the easier it is to focus and remember words. The length of the show doesn’t matter so long as you are into it.

📺 Focus on one word or phrase per episode:

Don’t try to learn everything at once. Choose a word you really want to use in the near future. The more useful the word, the more likely you’ll use it and remember it.

📺 Write it down:

Keep a notebook handy. Even a small step like putting a pen next to your notebook can make writing the words easier and more likely to happen. Plus, it will help you remember the words by writing them down.

📺 Learn vocabulary in real-life context:

The phrases you pick up are more useful because they’re already being used in real situations on the show. You can copy them directly and use them in conversation.

📺 Give yourself credit:

Remember that it can take a lot of concentration and energy to watch a TV show with the intention of learning new vocabulary from it. Every time you show up and do that counts as progress. Good job!
